LINK TV Augments International News Lineup with Al Jazeera English
Programming Committed to Bring Audiences Authentic Human Stories
From Across the Globe
Link TV, the national independent non-commercial satellite television network, announced today the expansion of its robust global news lineup with the addition of the AL JAZEERA NEWS BULLETIN and AL JAZEERA NEWSHOUR. Link TV will offer both Al Jazeera English programs to American viewers through Dish Network (Channel 9410) and DirecTV (Channel 375) as part of the basic packages reaching a combined 35 million U.S. households.
Airing Monday through Thursday, starting Mon., Feb. 11 at 5:30 p.m. PT, AL JAZEERA NEWS BULLETIN will present viewers with 30 minutes of live, breaking and in-depth news from Asia, Africa, the Middle East, Europe and the Americas. In addition, beginning Fri., Feb 15 at 5 p.m. PT, Link TV will premiere one hour of AL JAZEERA NEWSHOUR with in-depth reporting from the world, providing the latest news headlines and current events. After each broadcast, viewers will have 14 days to stream the programs at linktv.org/globalnews.
The two new Al Jazeera English newscasts join Link TV’s lineup of global news that includes Japan’s NHK NEWSLINE, FRANCE 24 and DW NEWS from German international broadcaster Deutsche Welle. The addition raises Link TV's profile as a destination where American audiences can find quality journalism and award-winning news programming that bridges cultures to give them a better understanding of the world. Starting Feb. 11, AL JAZEERA NEWS BULLETIN will join Link TV’s Monday-Thursday news block that is listed as follows:
3 pm DW NEWS
3:30 pm FRANCE 24
4 pm DEMOCRACY NOW!
5 pm NHK NEWSLINE
“We are delighted that Link TV has chosen to add Al Jazeera English content to its global news lineup,” said Giles Trendle, Al Jazeera English’s Managing Director. “This will provide American viewers an opportunity to view our award-winning journalism and judge for themselves the quality, range and depth of our coverage of important global issues that affect us all. In a world seemingly beset by rising bigotry and extremism, Al Jazeera English has an important mission in providing a wider scope of information, insight and understanding. And we believe this syncs well with the mission of Link TV.”
“It is a critical time to re-establish a solid relationship with Al Jazeera as Link TV looks to bridge barriers utilizing globally recognized and respected voices,” said Kim Spencer, Co-Founder of Link TV. “Our international news programs offer an in-depth analysis of social and political issues on a global scale to the American public. Showcasing multiple and diverse perspectives is as important now as it was nearly two decades ago when the channel was created since we find the media landscape full of polarizing narratives shaping public opinion and negatively impacting our society.”
Three other Al Jazeera English series will also make their way to Link TV’s primetime lineup later this year: WITNESS, UPFRONT and EARTHRISE. Through insightful observational documentaries, the WITNESS series brings global issues into personal focus with courageous and inspiring human stories. UPFRONT is a current affairs discussion, debate and analysis program hosted by Mehdi Hasan. The double header of WITNESS and UPFRONT will enhance Link TV’s Sunday night investigative and global analysis programming debuting March 3 at 9 p.m. and 9:30 p.m. ET/PT respectively. EARTHRISE takes an upbeat look at ecological, scientific, technological and design projects around the world, which pioneer creative solutions to the environmental challenges we all face. The series will start Wed., May 1 at 9:30 p.m. ET/PT.
Link TV's weekly broadcast schedule is themed nightly, and will include the three new Al Jazeera English series as follows (subject to change):
