Shireen Abu Akleh receives “Al Saraya Al Hamra” Award
On Saturday, December 24, the Palestinian Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Media, Nabil Abu Rudeine, received “Al Saraya Al Hamra” Award for Arab Journalism, which was awarded to the late colleague Shireen Abu Akleh, in Tripoli; at the closing ceremony of the Council of Arab Information Ministers, and as part of Tripoli’s activities as the capital of Arab media 2022.
Investigative report for Al Jazeera.net wins an award in Jordan
The Belarusian trap, Arab Migrants in the European Border Game, an investigative report for Al Jazeera Net, was named the second-best Arab investigative report of the year and received the silver award at the conclusion of the fifteenth forum of the Arab Reporters for Investigative Journalism Network (ARIJ), held in the Jordanian capital Amman on Sunday, December 4.
Al Jazeera wins eight Shorty Impact Awards; ‘Brand of the Year’
Al Jazeera won eight awards, including ‘Brand of the Year’, at the seventh annual Shorty Impact Awards. Digital teams AJ Contrast and AJ+ francais won in multiple categories in the competition honouring purpose-driven, socially conscious digital work. The prizes were conferred to two projects: AJ Contrast’s multiple award-winning, Emmy nominated interactive website about women with disabilities, Inaccessible Cities and AJ+ francais’s Cameroon, Land of Welcome.
AJ+ wins one Lone Star Emmy
AJ+ won a Lone Star Emmy for its video "What It's Really Like To Be Caught By Border Patrol", in the category of Public Affairs Programs. The story, filmed in McAllen, Texas, and part of Direct From’s Policing the Border series, features the experiences of immigrants who have been victims of harassment, mistreatment and serious human right violations by the U.S. Customs and Border Protection.
Al Jazeera wins a gold award at the Arab Radio and Television Festival
Al Jazeera channel AJA received a gold prize at the 22nd Arab Radio and Television Festival, which was held in Riyadh from November 9–12. Mohammed bin Fahd Al-Harthy, CEO of the Saudi Radio and Television Corporation, handed the trophy to our colleague Mohammed Al-Hammadi, head of AJA production, in recognition of the channel's win in the documentary program category for the film, Palestine 1920.
Investigative Unit wins two awards in the AIB 2022 Awards
The Al Jazeera Investigative Unit won two of The AIB 2022 Awards; the film The Truth Illusion won for best Specialist Factual TV category, and The Men who Sell Football won best Sports Journalism Video. Three other Al Jazeera programs were Highly Commended in various categories: The Digital's Start Here short video, AJE's Fault Lines and AJE's Witness..
AJ+ wins a Silver AAAS Kavli Science Journalism Award
AJ+ won the Silver AAAS Kavli Science Journalism Award in the category of Spot News/Feature Reporting for its story “The Bizarre COVID Side Effect No One Is Talking About”. The award is one of the most prestigious in science journalism worldwide. The video shows how a subset of COVID survivors are suffering from an unexpected side effect known as parosmia, a condition that causes their sense of smell to go haywire with no end in sight.
AL JAZEERA WINS THREE CANNES CORPORATE MEDIA & TV AWARDS
Al Jazeera Media Network won three awards; a gold and two silvers, at the thirteenth edition of the Cannes Media and Television Festival 2022, for documentaries produced by Al Jazeera English and Al Jazeera Arabic channels.
HAINES VETERRE INT'L PRIZE AWARDED TO SHIREEN ABU AKLEH
Colleague Magdy Benoura, in Seoul, Korea on October 26, received the Haines Feteir Global Media Award, which was awarded this year to the late colleague Shireen Abu Akleh. The Speaker of the Korean Parliament, Kim Jin-bio, received in his office colleague Magdy Bennoura and the other winners of this year's Haines Feteir Global Media Award, namely British photographer Philip Cox, who was awarded recognition for his coverage of the protests in Sudan, Japanese journalist Atanabe Hindio and Korean journalist Yoon Jae-wan.
AJD’s “Tam Tam Basket” wins award at Terra di Tutti Festival
Al Jazeera Documentary’s “Tam Tam Basket” film was awarded with the “Best Film Director” award at the Terra di Tutti Film Festival for films related to youth issues. The festival was organised from October 6 to 11, 2022 in Bologna, Italy.
Al Jazeera Digital wins two Online Journalism Awards
Al Jazeera Digital won top jury prizes in the 2022 Online Journalism Awards (OJA), its latest wins in global awards competitions.
AJ Contrast, the Digital division’s virtual reality documentary and innovation studio, and Al Jazeera English Online’s Slow Journalism/Features department won the Single Story and Portfolio (series) groupings to dominate the OJA’s Social Justice Reporting category.
Al Jazeera wins Amnesty International Canada Award
Judges for the 27th annual Amnesty International Canada Awards have awarded Al Jazeera English Online top prize in the Mixed Media category for its long-form interactive feature, Toxic Legacy: The fight to end environmental racism in Canada.
Tawasul website wins DCA 2022 award
Al Jazeera’s Corporate Communication section bagged a silver Digital Communication Award (DCA2022), in the “Internal Channel” category for its intranet website “Tawasul”.
HR & Administration wins Brandon Hall Award
The HR & Administration division won a Brandon Hall Group silver award for excellence in the Best Advance in Leadership Development category, on August 18, 2022.
Al Jazeera Digital wins three Edward R. Murrow Awards
In a breakout year for global recognition, the Al Jazeera English website has emerged with three wins in the prestigious US-based Edward R. Murrow Awards. In competition against media heavyweights The New York Times, Washington Post, CNN International and numerous others, the Al Jazeera English Online won top prizes in the Breaking News, News Series and Feature Reporting categories of the annual awards named after the CBS News maverick and pioneer of 60 Minutes-styled documentaries.
Al Jazeera wins ‘Feature of the Year’ at the ABSW Awards
Al Jazeera Digital’s Slow Journalism Unit won general ‘Feature of the Year’ in the Association of British Science Writers (ABSW) awards. Al Jazeera won in the feature category for general science reporting, beating co-finalist, The Economist, to win the prize.
Shireen Abu Akleh receives a prize from the Hope Film Festival
The Hope International Film Festival's board of directors has decided to present an annual award named after the martyred Palestinian journalist Shireen Abu Akleh. The award is given to highly motivated journalists, media professionals, and other innovators from all over the world.
AJ+ Español wins a Latam Digital Media Award
AJ+ Español won a LATAM Digital Media Award in the category of Best Use of Online Video for its series “Descoloniza”. Descoloniza sheds light on the stories and struggles of communities throughout Latin America that have historically been less represented in traditional media.
AJD’s Postcard wins the grand prize at FIDADOC Festival
Al Jazeera Documentary Channel’s film, Postcard, by Moroccan director Asma al-Modir won the grand prize at the 13th edition of the Agadir International Documentary film Festival (FIDADOC), held in Morocco, between June 12th and 17th.
AJ Contrast wins One World Media Award
Al Jazeera’s immersive storytelling and media innovation studio, AJ Contrast, has won a top prize at the One World Media Awards in London. One World jurors conferred the win in the Digital Media category for AJ Contrast’s interactive site, Inaccessible Cities.
AJD’s Postcard film won the Tetouan Festival Award
Al Jazeera Documentary channel’s film, Postcard, won “Best Documentary” at the 27th Mediterranean Film Festival of Tetouan (Morocco), which was held from June 11 to 17.
The film competed against eight other films from Lebanon, Italy, Egypt, Morocco, Spain and Belgium.
AJ+’s Eat This with Yara wins a James Beard Award
AJ+’s Eat This with Yara has won a James Beard Award in the category of Visual Media-Short Form, for their story “What Everyone Gets Wrong About Farm Work”. The story sheds light on the complex farm work that thousands of migrants, wrongly referred to by some as “unskilled” or “low-skilled” workers, do to keep the U.S. fed.
I-Unit awarded at AIPS Sports Media Ceremony
Al Jazeera Investigative Unit was awarded second place in the “Video Documentary” category for its investigative piece “The Men Who Sell Football”, by the International Sports Press Association (AIPS).
The ceremony was held on Sunday, June 12 at the Khalifa International Stadium in Doha, and was accepted by Phil Rees, Director of the Network's Investigative Unit, and fellow film producer David Harrison.
AJ+’s Direct From with Dena Takruri wins a Regional Emmy Award
AJ+’s series Direct From with Dena Takruri was honored with an Emmy® Award by the National Academy of Television Arts & Sciences (NATAS) – Michigan chapter. Its story “The Racist Border You Don’t Hear About” won in the category of Societal Concerns. The video shows how officers within U.S. Customs and Border Protection were ordered to racially profile people of color in the U.S.- Canada border.
