Al Jazeera Media Network has officially launched the AJ+ Arabi after the success it achieved during the soft launch. It drew a tremendous number of followers and fans on its accounts on social media; and its videos have exceeded 55 million views.
The launch ceremony was held in Al Jazeera Café at Culture Village of Katara on Monday evening and was attended by Shaikh Hamad bin Thamer Al Thani, Chairman of Al Jazeera, along a number of Al Jazeera executive directors, officials and employees. The event was covered by many news organizations.
In her word to the guests, Dima Al Khative, Managing Director of AJ+, expressed her excitement with the official launch of AJ+ Arabi after few months of its soft launch which succeeded tremendously and attracted viewers from all over Arab countries.
Al Khatib believes AJ+ Arabi is a significant addition to the Arab Media for it is a unique digital platform that provides the followers with the latest developments in the regions and the world from a different prospective. She affirms that the followers interaction and partnership in narrating the stories are two vital elements on which AJ+ Arabi builds its distinction.
AJ+ Arabi has produced and published new videos pertaining to the Arab youth interests; whether political, cultural, or social.
AJ+ has achieved a surpassing success since the English version’s launch in 2014. The number of views exceeded 5 billion, which is unprecedented for a non-American media organization to reach within the borders of the USA. It has collected a number of world-class awards such as Shorty award for “Best Presence on Facebook”, and two Webbys awards for best news and information online and for “Distinct Coverage” on the refugee’s crisis in Europe.
AJ+ announced the launch of its apps on smart TV’s such as Apple TV, Android TV, and Amazon Fire in a step to produce content for other platforms besides social media platforms.
