Al Jazeera’s Bahaa Al-Din Ibrahim completes four years in Egyptian prisons

Today marks four years since Al Jazeera Mubasher journalist, Bahaa Al-Din Ibrahim has been detained to Egyptian prisons on February 22, 2020.

The continued detention of Ibrahim, and his exceeding the legal period of pretrial detention, is a violation of his constitutional rights, of Egyptian laws, and of his right to be presented for a fair trial or release.

Ibrahim’s detention puts the Egyptian authorities under international responsibility, and holds them fully responsible for the deterioration of his health.

Al Jazeera Media Network expresses its grave concern about the situation of colleague Ibrahim and his continued arbitrary detention. He lacks the most basic health and safety conditions, which pose a threat to his life.

The Network recalls that the Egyptian authorities are also still arresting colleague Rabee Al-Sheikh, Al Jazeera Mubasher producer, since August 1, 2021. He too exceeds the period of pretrial detention stipulated by Egyptian law.

Al Jazeera continues its efforts to cooperate with international press freedom, human rights organisations, as well as international and regional judicial organisations to demand the release of its journalists, Bahaa Al-Din Ibrahim and Rabee Al-Sheikh.

Al Jazeera Media Network calls for the release of all journalists unjustly detained in Egyptian prisons, because #JournalismIsNotACrime
