Al Jazeera English wins three News and Documentary Emmy Awards
Al Jazeera English’s Fault Lines team won three Emmys for two of its investigative films at the 47th News and Documentary Emmy Awards in New York on 27 May.
Crackdown: Deported Under Trump, which documents one of the most sweeping immigration crackdowns in modern US history, won the inaugural category for Outstanding Social Issue Coverage, while Kids Under Fire won in another inaugural category, Outstanding War or Violent Conflict Coverage. It also won the Outstanding Writing Award for its examination of deliberate targeting of Palestinian children in Gaza by Israeli soliders.
Al Jazeera English’s correspondent Josh Rushing accepted the first award for Kids Under Fire and dedicated it to the 11 Al Jazeera colleagues killed by the Israeli military in Gaza, along with the 270 other journalists and media workers who have also been killed during the genocide. He also acknowledged the bravery of the doctors who shared their evidence and urged continuation of “the good fight” for truth.
“There is no free people without a free press, so keep up the good fight,” he concluded to wide applause at the awards presented by the National Academy of Television Arts and Sciences.
The Fault Lines’ films overcame competition from the likes of CNN, CBS News, National Geographic and ABC News to win. Notably, three of the five nominations in the Outstanding War or Violent Conflict Coverage category were Fault Lines films.
The programme in its quest to take audiences beyond the headlines and hold the powerful to account as it examines the US' role in the world was nominated for 11 different awards, and won three.
Al Jazeera English Director of Programmes Mohammed Al Hamadi praised the team for their outstanding work: “We thank the Academy for these awards. It is important recognition of the work done by our incredible team in ensuring that such stories are told.”
Likewise, Al Jazeera English Manager of Investigative Programmes Rafi Mustafa, praised Fault Lines for bringing attention to stories the world needs to see: “We commend our Fault Lines team’s uncompromising pursuit of the truth. These films are a testament to Al Jazeera's commitment to telling stories that others cannot or choose to ignore.”

For “Kids Under Fire” senior correspondent Josh Rushing, producer/director Amel Guettatfi, editor Adrienne Haspel, cinematographer Singeli Agnew and our colleagues in Gaza with Ashraf Mashharawi’s Media Town who worked under unimaginable conditions. Last year, the Fault Lines film Children of the Darien Gap won both the Outstanding Hard News Feature - Long Form and Outstanding Editing – News categories.
