Al Jazeera: First media institution in the MEA region to obtain ISO 27701 Certification for Data Management
On Wednesday, May 31, Al Jazeera Media Network was awarded the ISO 27701 certification for data management and privacy protection by the British Standards Institution (BSI). This accomplishment comes after a comprehensive review of the Network's data protection management systems and practices.
Imran Chowdhury, the Data Protection Manager at Al Jazeera Media Network, expressed his gratification with the certification: "Al Jazeera’s attainment of the ISO 27701 for Information Privacy is a result of years of work within Al Jazeera to comply with the EU GDPR and Qatar PDPPL. In December of last year, BSI started its comprehensive review of our data protection management systems and ensured our adherence to the highest internationally recognized standards in this field."
Jamal Dalli, Manager of Business Development at the BSI, presented the certificate and stated, "Al Jazeera is the media institution first certified by BSI with the ISO 27701 certification in the field of data protection in the MEA region, also the first institution in Qatar to obtain this certification.”
Dalli commended the performance of Al Jazeera's Data Protection Team, emphasizing their unwavering commitment to upholding relevant standards and measures for data protection across digital platforms and other services.
The ceremony took place at Al Jazeera Media Network's headquarters and was attended by Dr. Mostefa Souag, Acting Director-General, Khaled Ali Johar, Executive Director of Human Resources, and other senior management members at Al Jazeera.
It is worth noting that Al Jazeera Media Network also received the ISO 27001 certification for data security from the BSI in February 2022.
