Al Jazeera Media Network expresses its deep concern for the safety of its correspondent Hafedh Mribah and cameraman Mahmut Yavuz, who were among the journalists accompanying the “Sumud Flotilla”, intercepted by Israeli forces in international waters.

The Network holds the Israeli authorities fully responsible for the safety of its colleagues Hafedh and Mahmut, and calls on the international community to take a unified stance against Israel’s repeated violations of international law and conventions.

Israeli forces intercepted a number of vessels participating in the “Sumud Flotilla” in international waters off the coast of the Greek island of Crete, resulting in a loss of contact with Al Jazeera’s team and the journalists on board. Al Jazeera reaffirms its commitment to press freedom and calls for the protection of all journalists, and for enabling them to carry out their duties freely and without obstruction.
