Al Jazeera Media Network has signed a memorandum of understanding with the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees on Sunday, December 4, 2016. The MoU strives to enhance press coverage addressing the causes of the refugee crisis and ways to deal with it, in addition to encouraging effective dialogue between the various parties involved on international and domestic levels. The MoU also aims to raise awareness of the international laws in place to protect refugees among Al Jazeera’s journalists and audiences.

In line with the MoU, Al Jazeera will seek to cover areas of war and present the suffering of refugees in an effort to draw attention to issues that require humanitarian intervention.

Dr. Mostefa Souag, Acting Director General, and Khaled Khalifa, Regional Representative of the Office of the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees, signed the memorandum in the presence of Abdulla Alnajjar, Executive Director of Global Brand and Communications, and Sami Al-Hajj, Director of Al Jazeera Public Liberties and Human Rights Centre.
