This Al Jazeera documentary series explores the fate of India’s Muslims and other religious minorities under Narendra Modi’s rule. ‘In Search of India’s Soul’ is a two-part, two-hour series that will air from 6th and 13th February respectively, on Al Jazeera English.

In the series, writer and presenter Aatish Taseer goes on a personal journey through current day India, to understand what the Prime Minister’s hardline ‘Hindu-first’ policies mean for the 200 million Muslims and other religious minorities there and to explore the modern-day battle for India’s character, constitution and her very soul.

Taseer discovers the growing challenges facing religious minorities in India. He engages with people from both sides of this impassioned divide and explores the historical context to today’s rising tensions. On his journey, Taseer unwittingly becomes part of the story as his own Indian citizenship status is revoked by the government.

Commenting on the series, Farid Barsoum, Executive Producer and commissioner stated, “Aatish Taseer and filmmaker Bruno Rosso each have a vast and intimate knowledge of India, which radiates through these films. The result is a deep, insightful and balanced look at India during a volatile and pivotal moment in its history.”

Al Jazeera brings to light human stories behind the news. We highlight the impact policies have on communities and explore their nuanced effects on individuals.
