Al Jazeera English wins awards at New York Film Festivals
- 101 East wins three Gold Medals
- 101 East Presenter Steve Chao wins Best Reporter
Al Jazeera English is celebrating winning four Gold Medals and one Bronze at the New York Festivals International TV and Film Awards.
101 East won Gold medals for Return of the Lizard King, The Dolphin Hunters and Stray Bullets, while 101 East presenter Steve Chao won a Gold Medal for Best News Reporter/Correspondent.
101 East also won a Bronze medal for the episode We Built This City, while they received two Finalist certificates for Food For Thought and Indonesia’s Rock Governor.
Commenting on the success of 101 East, Giles Trendle, Director of Programming at Al Jazeera English said: “We are delighted and honoured to receive these awards and see them as a testament to the quality of journalism and filmmaking to which we adhere. Our current affairs documentary strand, 101 East, has always set high standards and is part of our mission to tell bold and untold stories from around the world.”
101 East is Al Jazeera’s in-depth weekly current affairs programme which focuses on stories from across Asia and the Pacific. In recent years 101 East has won awards for its exemplary journalism from the World Media Awards Summit, Human Rights Press Awards and the Asia TV Awards.
Before joining 101 East, Steve Chao spent close to two decades on the frontlines in the world’s hotspots. Steve began his career in Canada working for various networks and was Asia Bureau Chief for CTV News, before joining Al Jazeera in 2009 as Senior Asia Correspondent.
