Al Jazeera to host 2016 IPI World Congress
March 24, Doha Qatar – Al Jazeera is proud to announce that it will be hosting the International Press Institute’s World Congress in Doha, Qatar from April 30th to May 3rd, 2016.
The International Press Institute is a global network of editors, media executives and leading journalists, dedicated to the furtherance and safeguarding of press freedom, the protection of freedom of opinion and expression, the promotion of the free flow of news and information, and the improvement of the practices of journalism.
In a signing ceremony between Al Jazeera and the IPI, Al Jazeera’s Acting Director General, Dr. Mostefa Souag, commented, “As part of our ongoing commitment to press freedom, Al Jazeera is delighted to be hosting this milestone event alongside our colleagues at IPI. It’s especially important that this event will be held in the Middle East as this is something that will help further the cause of press freedom and the improvement of standards in the region.”
The 2015 IPI World Congress will be held in Yangon, Myanmar from the 27th to the 29th of March. Previous congresses have been held in Cape Town, South Africa (April, 2014), Amman, Jordan (May, 2013) and Port of Spain, Trinidad and Tobago (June, 2012).
