Madrid – June 20, 2018

Al Jazeera Media Network was awarded the Creative award by the Spanish Foreign Press Correspondents Association (ACPE) for its support of the free press in the Arab region and its role in delivering a detailed picture of what happens in the Arab world.

Ayache Derradji, Al Jazeera Bureau Chief in Paris, received the award during a special awarding ceremony held in the Spanish capital, Madrid, on Tuesday June 19, 2018.

In his speech, Derradji said that Al Jazeera has been dedicated to upholding its journalistic code of ethics since its inception. Working over the years has only made Al Jazeera’s journalism stronger in presenting diversity by providing a platform for the opinion and the other opinion on its screens.

“Our cameras have been the eye witnesses that deliver the full picture of the events. We have paid dearly for that. This prestigious win proves us to be resolute in adhering to our ethics,” Derradji said.

Bertrand de la Grange, President of the Foreign Press Correspondents Association, said Al Jazeera has commendably contributed to covering the news of the Arab region accurately and that the choice of this award for Al Jazeera by the members of the association’s is a show of support and solidarity for Al Jazeera against the harassment and the calls for its shutdown.

The Spanish ACPE has been awarding foreign press entities and individuals for 19 years during awarding ceremonies that are usually attended by international correspondents, journalists, public figures and political celebrities.

This is another award to add to the dozens of awards won by Al Jazeera this year, including the prestigious “Broadcaster of the Year” by the New York Festival, Webby, and Peabody awards.
