Giles Trendle joins the New York Festivals TV & Film Awards Advisory Board

The New York Festivals TV & Film Awards have announced the appointment of Al Jazeera English Channel’s Managing Director Mr Giles Trendle to their Advisory Board and Grand Jury on Monday, October 1, 2018.

 

Commenting on Trendle’s appointment, Rose Anderson, VP/Executive Director of The New York Festivals TV & Film Awards, said: “With Giles Trendle and Sammy Choi, our Advisory Board benefits from the perspectives of two more prominent broadcasters, lending not only a global diversity but also a hands-on knowledge of the multiple formats and platforms that are engaging audiences around the world. As award-winning industry leaders, they understand the elements that go into creating compelling award-winning nonfiction content.”

 

Commenting on his appointment, Trendle said: “I am honoured to be chosen to join the Advisory Board and Grand Jury of the New York Festivals TV & Film Awards. I hope to bring with me the expertise of Al Jazeera and its pioneering storytelling to identify and highlight captivating content.”

 

Trendle started his journalism career in the 1980s as a freelance print journalist based in Lebanon covering the country’s civil war. As the Managing Director of Al Jazeera English, Trendle oversees the channel’s operations in over 70 bureaus around the world with over 400 editorial staff. Trendle first joined Al Jazeera in 2004 and worked on the Arabic Channel's flagship investigative documentary programme “Top Secret”. He joined Al Jazeera English Channel ahead of its launch in 2006.

 

Earlier this year, Al Jazeera English Channel, was awarded ‘Broadcaster of the Year’ by The New York Festivals TV & Film Awards for the second consecutive year, winning 39 prizes including 12 gold and 13 silver medals.
