A new high-profile topical discussion show launches on Friday 15th November at 20:00 GMT. Recorded at Al Jazeera’s London Broadcast Centre in The Shard with a view of a global city as a backdrop, Studio B: Unscripted brings together two people with different life experiences to find common ground and tackle some of the key issues of our time.

With no mediation by a presenter, what ensues are in-depth discussions and meetings of minds, exploring for example the intersections of art and politics, climate change and architecture, colonialism and identity, ethics and power. The engagement of an informed audience ensures fresh perspectives and pertinent questions.

Bilaal Hoosein, Director of Programmes at Al Jazeera English said: “These dynamic and provocative shows will surprise and inspire viewers, as guests from different walks of life move the conversation forward on topics from racism and oppression, to identity politics and emotional intelligence.”

The first episode finds acclaimed best-selling author Fatima Bhutto and celebrated broadcaster, author and academic Marc Lamont Hill discussing the parallels between Western pop culture and foreign policy, and comparing notes on the various ways injustice and oppression manifest across the world.

This first series also features Elif Shafak, Wole Soyinka, Priyamvada Gopal, George the Poet, Patrisse Cullors, Lowkey, Ken Loach, Edouard Louis, Ayishat Akanbi and Alain de Botton.

About the upcoming program, Salah A A Khadr, Head of Discussion Programmes said: “I’m incredibly proud to be launching Studio B: Unscripted. This unmoderated format will provide a brand new space to explore and abstract themes and perspectives often ignored or unheard on TV news platforms. This weekly meeting of minds will engage, provoke and inspire - Welcome to Studio B!"

This six-part series of Studio B: Unscripted airs weekly on Al Jazeera English on Fridays at 20:00 GMT, and repeats Saturdays at 12:00 GMT, Sundays at 01:00 GMT and Mondays at 06:00 GMT, from November 15th till December 20th 2019.
