Al Jazeera Media Network welcomed the findings of the Independent International Investigative Committee of the United Nations in connection to the killing of Shireen Abu Akleh, Al Jazeera correspondent in Palestine. Based on these findings, the Network is calling to take swift action to ensure justice for her and hold her killers accountable.

The UN Commission acknowledged that Israeli forces used "lethal force without justification" in targeting the late Shireen Abu Akleh. It further shed light on the urgent need to hold Shireen’s killers and those involved in her targeting accountable.

Furthermore, Al Jazeera supports the Commission’s pledge to provide the evidence it has gathered to the International Criminal Court (ICC) in order to support the Court’s investigation into the situation in the State of Palestine.

Whilst Al Jazeera calls on the Prosecutor of the International Criminal Court, Karim Khan, to initiate the investigation into the killing of Shireen Abu Akleh without delay, the Network renews its commitment to Shireen's family and colleagues highlighting that it will spare no legal effort and will pursue all avenues to ensure justice for her and hold the killers accountable. This commitment includes supporting the call for completion of an ICC investigation.
