Al Jazeera Media Network condemns Myanmar court sentencing of Wa Lone and Kyaw Soe Oo, Reuters news agency reporters, to seven years each in prison and calls for immediate release.

The reporters have been jailed since their arrest on December 12, 2017 and charged under the Official Secrets Act for possessing the documents, which authorities later claimed were sensitive to national security.

The Network calls on all those concerned with media freedom to take an active part in its international campaign ‘Demand Press Freedom’ highlighting media freedom and to protect journalists and media institutions. We take this opportunity to call for the release of all imprisoned journalists including Bangladeshi photo journalist Shaidul Alam and Al Jazeera’s Mahmoud Hussein who is been imprisoned for more than 620 days in Egyptian prison without any charges.
