Asef Hamidi has worked in multiple roles in his media career, both at Al Jazeera and earlier. He joined Al Jazeera Arabic Channel in 2005 as a producer and in 2015, became the director of news. During that time, the channel witnessed major coverage on multiple world events.
In September 2025, he was appointed the Managing Director of Al Jazeera Arabic Channel.
From 2000-2005, Asef worked at Abu Dhabi TV in multiple roles, until he became editor-in-chief. Starting as a television reporter covering major events in Afghanistan, Iraq, Palestine, Iran, Lebanon, South Africa and the Philippines.
He was one of the founders of the Palestinian Radio and Television Corporation in 1994 and became its news director, while simultaneously working as a correspondent from Palestine for multiple Arab and international radios. At the end of the 1990s, he worked as the director of Amwaj Radio in Palestine.
Asef has published books about journalism and trained at the Al Jazeera Media Institute. His books titled "Radio and Television Work - Keys to Success and Secrets to Creativity", "Writing for the Picture", and "The Television Correspondent's Guide", have also been accredited in media courses in Arab universities.
Over the decades, he participated in many international media events, forums and conferences, to stay ahead with the changes in the media profession, especially in artificial intelligence, digital media, and modern media practices.
