Abdelrahman Matar, a Palestinian journalist, began his career in 1999 with the Associated Press (AP) and worked as a correspondent for a number of Arab channels and radio stations before joining Al Jazeera in 2006 as a correspondent in Pakistan and later becoming a bureau chief.
He has covered most of South Asian countries (India, Pakistan, Afghanistan, Bangladesh, Sri Lanka, and Nepal), as well as exclusive coverage in Malaysia, Turkey, Egypt, and Syria.
Abdelrahman’s focus was field-based in conflict and disaster areas. He covered battles in Pakistan's tribal provinces near the border with Afghanistan, the beginnings of the revolution in Syria, natural disasters such as the 2005 Pakistan earthquake and the 2015 Nepal earthquake, and the accompanying stories of human displacement.
