Al Jazeera signs MOU with MSF

Al Jazeera Media Network signed an MOU with Médecins Sans Frontières (MFS). Both organisations have interest in highlighting major human rights issues such as people’s sufferings under the danger of wars, their right for receiving and accessing high quality medical care, their right for shelter and relief when natural or manmade disasters befall, and during armed conflicts or a plague outbreak.

The signing ceremony took place in Al Jazeera’s DG’s office on October 9. Dr. Mostefa Souag, acting Director General of Al Jazeera signed on behalf of the network and Dr. Méguerditch Tarazian, President of MSF (France) signed for the MSF. The ceremony was attended by Abdullah Alnajjar, Executive Director of Global Brand and Communications; Sami Alhaj, Director of Public Liberties and Human Rights; Dima Al Khatib, Managing Director of AJ+; and Mohamed Bali, Director of MSF in MENA region; in addition to a number of Al Jazeera managers and employees.

Dr. Souag valued the collaboration with MFS for the great humanitarian services it provides to people suffering natural and man-made calamities. He pointed out he common values and principles between MFS and Al Jazeera. He believes that both organizations are aiming to noble goal.

According to the MOU, Al Jazeera Media Network and Médecins Sans Frontières will collaborate to spread the humanitarian values and principles; and to work on protecting those who defend them through raising awareness of law and the rule of law, organizing seminars and conferences to deeply discuss and enlarge those causes, and working towards practical cooperation between Al Jazeera and the organization including mutual visitation to the organization’s missions in the field.

The agreement also provides for exchanging press releases, information, and recommendations of coverage in areas of conflicts if deemed beneficial for people in that area.
